New hotel and saloon: Messrs. E. Bryan and Co. have opened a new hotel and saloon on the corner of Carson and Robinson streets, opposite the Mint. This will prove to be a convenient place of resort to the employees of Uncle Sam when dry and hungry.

All sorts: Thaxter has a 13-pound turnip (of the rutabaga variety) in his drug store that was raised on Robinson’s ranch.

Ayer’s Sarsaparilla will cure many a poor sufferer who submits to the surgeon’s knife and remains with sores and swellings. Ayers will purge out the corruptions which pollute the blood.

Ramsey Club: In order to move a tent frame, an eight-horse team was hitched to the front of the house and both the house and its contents, card tables, bar, chairs, etc., were yanked across Main street in about two minutes — now a new building can be erected. (Ramsey Recorder)

Chatters: Publication of Carson High School “Chatters” is resumed with editor Tom Ross and reporters Eleanor Springmeyer, Mickey Laxalt, Barbara Parker, Herb Whittemore, Joan Little and Anne May Oliver. New faculty members are Mrs. Mary Alice West who teaches typing and physical education, Mrs. Marjorie, home economics and John Blaikie, music teacher in the high school and grammar school.

Teen smokers: Carson High School students smoke congregate and smoke in a vacant lot off Robinson and Saliman streets, called “Smokers Corner.” Up to 120 students congregate and continue to be source of unruly conduct.

Sue Ballew is the daughter of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
