The Carson Minstrels: These homemade artists have made themselves not only one of the features of our town, but have got a statewide reputation as performers and musicians which is highly gratifying and credible. On the score that “no good can come out of Nazareth,” the Nazarenes of these parts have been give to underrating the qualifications of the Minstrels and speaking of them as “scalawags.”

Did the square thing: On Sunday last L. O. Benedict, recently convicted of embezzling the funds of the Odd Fellow’s Lodge of Eureka, met Warden McCullogh on the street and informed him he had been sent to the penitentiary for two years from Eureka. McCullogh, quite astonished asked for further proof. Sheriff Sweeny, who had known Benedict for years, placed his prisoner on his honor to report to Carson the following day, of which he did. He certainly should start with a big credit mark.

Are we going to have a loyalty parade in Carson? Well, we should say so. One of the biggest and grandest affairs that was ever attempted in the city.

Protests against leasing the refreshment and bar concessions at Bowers Mansion were registered to the Washoe County commissioners yesterday by a delegation of eight women. There were several complaints about drunkenness on the picnic grounds during the last season and one woman was annoyed by a fist fight near where they were eating lunch.

An inmate at the Nevada State Prison filed suit this morning in Ormsby County District Court asking removal of Warden Carl Hocker from office. The inmate claimed Hocker refused to hand over passbook savings to his attorney.

Carson City will soon be clamping down on sign violators. Letters from the Community Development Department went out last week to all commercial sign owners, asking for compliance to the 1975 city sign ordinance.

Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
