Then and Now

Designed by Nevada’s preeminent architect, Frederic J. DeLongchamps in an Art Deco Moderne-style with unique archetectural details, the building at 50 South Virginia Street opened in 1934 as Reno’s main U.S. Post Office. It continued to be used as an auxiliary post office when the main post office moved into a larger facility 1975. In 2012, a development group lead by developer Bernie Carter purchased the property and restored it to it’s glory — including opening up a skylight that had been covered some time in it’s past, and uncovering and cleaning black Georgia marble and cast aluminum details. Today it houses retail shops in The Basement, West Elm furnishings on the main floor, and offices on the top floor.
