The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office arrested a juvenile Thursday after receiving reports a students intended to “shoot up” Carson Valley Middle School.
The 12-year-old suspect allegedly messaged another student, threatening to bring a gun to school and start shooting.
The student’s parent intercepted the message and contacted authorities. Deputies responded to the residence of the reporting party in Indian Hills and met with the parent to examine the phone which the threat was received.
Investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s School Resource Officers and the Douglas County School District resulted in identification of the phone used to send the threats and deputies and dispatchers traced the phone to a residence in Chichester Estates.
Deputies responded to the residence about 8:30 p.m. and located the suspect. The juvenile admitted to sending the threats but claimed he wasn’t serious about it.
The suspect was arrested for harassment and threatening to use a firearm at school and was turned over to Douglas County Juvenile Probation.
The only weapons recovered in the home were a BB gun and two knives. There was no evidence the juvenile had a firearm or had access to one.
This was an isolated incident between the suspect and student he sent the threats to. The suspect is in custody and there’s no evidence or information to indicate any other threat or danger exists and school is in session as scheduled.
