Cracker Box thankful for support

As I approach my 37th anniversary as owner of the Cracker Box, I want to thank my family, friends and amazing customers for all their support over the years, but most importantly over the past couple of weeks.

Since opening in 1980, the Cracker Box has consistently earned “A” ratings on health inspections.

A couple of weeks ago we received a poor health inspection, which was resolved even before it was published by the newspaper and passed on through social media.

It was personally devastating and I want to explain what happened.

I recently expanded the back of our building. I now know that construction left a few tiny gaps that went unnoticed and allowed some mice to enter. Those gaps were missed during the required final city inspections. The crevices combined with the huge increase in the mice population this spring led to the problem.

Like many restaurants, we use an outside company to handle pest control and thought they were handling any issues. Apparently that wasn’t the case.

However, once notified, I immediately got to work on the solution. The building was professionally sealed from the inside out, in what’s called an “exclusion.” I also put some new policies and practices into place and enforced past policies and practices that have been successful for 36 years.

The next day we got an all clear from the health department. The following week we got another “AA” rating on our health inspection.

I want to thank those who haven’t missed a beat in supporting us. I plan to continue to own and operate the Box for the foreseeable future and look forward to serving all of our good customers in the years ahead.
