Business briefly: Two local nonprofits benefit from literacy grants

Two area nonprofits are benefitting from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, which is giving nearly $30,000 to Nevada organizations who support literacy.

The ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada in Carson City has been awarded $5,000.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Mason Valley in Yerington won a grant worth $2,841.62.

The funds are aimed at supporting literacy programs within a 20-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center across the 44 states Dollar General serves.

Wells Fargo launches program for Nevada veterans

In honor of National Military Appreciation Month, Wells Fargo & Company is launching a program aimed at helping Nevada’s veterans succeed in civilian careers.

A Department of Labor program, the ApprenticeshipUSA program offers companies the tools needed to develop a skilled workforce while providing veterans the opportunity to earn a salary while learning additional skills necessary to succeed in high-demand jobs.

ApprenticeshipUSA allows eligible veterans to use their GI Bill education benefits to receive a tax-free monthly payment. After six months of a veteran’s apprenticeship, the payment is gradually reduced — and is offset by progressive wage increases.

The ApprenticeshipUSA Program will be piloted in the company’s Community Bank, Consumer Lending, and Payments, Virtual Solutions and Innovation divisions. For information about the pilot and where to apply, go to https://www.wellsfargojobs.com/military.

In addition to ApprenticeshipUSA, Wells Fargo offers other veteran career transition initiatives, including the Veteran Employment Transition (VET) Internship Program, American Corporate Partners mentorships, and scholarships and emergency grants through Scholarship America.

For information about other veterans programs, go to wellsfargo.com/military/veterans.
