Ryder Homes breaks ground on single-family home community in Somersett master-planned community

Ryder Homes began construction of The Pointe at Somersett, a 64-home development in northwest Reno, on May 26, one of last new developments in the master planned community of Somersett in northwest Reno.

The Pointe at Somersett will feature three homes designs including Modern Farmhouse, Contemporary Desert and Progressive Prairie. There will be three different floor plans ranging in size from a single story, 2,386 sq. ft. house to a two story, 3,057 sq. ft. house. With property lots ranging in size from 9,000 to 14,000 sq. ft., the spacious floor plans include three-car garages, interior courtyards and casitas for the larger homes.

“The design of these is a departure from what most homebuyers have begun to expect from homebuilders, and we’re very excited to bring these new homes to market,” added Thomsen. “We want The Pointe at Somersett to be special.”

Somersett began as a master-planned community in the early 2000s. Ryder Homes had planned on developing the land where The Pointe will reside, but the recession set development back.

“We’ve owned this land for some time, and had to ride out the recession,” said Jay Ryder, president of Ryder Homes. “Now is the right time to begin construction.”

Ryder Homes had planned to begin construction on The Pointe earlier in the year, but the frequent inclement weather also set plans back for the time being.

Reno City Councilmember Neoma Jardon was on hand for the groundbreaking ceremony. She represents Ward 5 of The City of Reno, which includes Somersett.

Jardon indicated the new homes are another step in addressing the housing issue in the Truckee Meadows.

“Your Reno council is working with teams like Ryder Homes to bring much needed housing to the Reno area.”

Homes will be on sale starting August 2017, with construction to be completed by January 2018.

About a 100 workers from Ryder and subcontractors will on the project.

Ryder Homes now has five active single-family home. apartment and condos communities in the Reno-Sparks area.
