Book puts America’s small towns under microscope

What I Found in a Thousand Towns: A Traveling Musician’s Guide to Rebuilding America’s Communities — One Coffee Shop, Dog Park, & Open-Mike Night at a Time by Dar Williams:

Musician Dar Williams, who has spent years traveling the county, muses why some towns flourish while others fade away. She researched her book by visiting small towns and talking to local officials, small business owners, and residents.

“Positive proximity, a state of being where living side by side with other people is experienced as beneficial,” is part of her answer.

A few places she looks closely at are Moab, Utah, and the Finger Lakes region of New York state. An insightful and fascinating look at people and places.
