Auditions planned for Carson City staging of ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr.’

Actors, singers and dancers in grades K-12 are needed to bring the story about an eccentric inventor and his famed flying car to Carson City.

Four performances of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr.,” a musical adaptation based on the 1968 film version of Ian Fleming’s children’s book, are slated to play Dec. 14-16 in the Bob Boldrick Theater inside the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St. Youth Theatre Carson City is holding auditions at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Community Center to cast a host of colorful Disney characters.

The fantastical musical adventure includes an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas. The story follows Caractacus Potts, an eccentric inventor who restores an old race car with the help of his children, Jeremy and Jemima. They soon discover the car has magical properties, including the ability to float and take flight. Trouble occurs when the evil Baron Bomburst desires the magic car for himself. The family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious and batty Grandpa Potts to outwit the dastardly Baron and Baroness and their villainous henchman, the Child Catcher.

Auditions are open to all boys and girls in grades K-12. Auditioners are asked to prepare a one-minute song and be ready to learn a dance.
