Community sports: Discount tickets for pro motorcycle races

Tickets are on sale now for the Western Flat Track Fuji Park Flat Track motorcycle races which will return to Fuji Park on Aug. 23 and 24.

The event has sold out the previous three years.

A deal is being offered right now in which those who buy one adult ticket will receive one free child’s ticket for Friday, Aug. 23. The deal is good through June 1.

A total of $20,000 in prize money will be awarded, so the nation’s best racers will be participating in the event.

The Pro Race on Friday and Saturday nights will each offer a $5,000 total purse. The Deuce will also be held on Saturday in which the top eight racers will compete for a $5,000 total purse.

Gates open at 6 p.m. and racing begins a 7 each night. Tickets can be purchased at www.visitcarson.com or at any participating area motorcycle shop.

Empire Ranch Senior Men’s event

The first away tournament of 2019 for the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Golf Club was held April 10. This four-man team scramble tournament was played on the Dayton Valley Golf Course with great weather and good attendance.

The team of Albert Giannotti, Greg Bentley, Skip Yokota and Ken Cuneo won first place with a net score of 46. John Masiello, Nick Paul, John Lewis and Michael were second with 46. Third place was a tie with two teams with 47. Steve Fagnant, Rene Ojeda, Andrew Warner and Jim Purear won the tie breaker. Mike Vadnais, Tom Teders, Bob Warzynski and a bogey were fourth.

The closest to the pin was awarded to Wade Walker on Hole No. 4, Goeff Swann on Hole No. 6, Mike Tremayne on Hole No. 13 and Tom Teders on Hole No. 16.
