Community sports: Nevada Raider Nation holding draft party Thursday

Nevada Raider Nation-Carson City Chapter will host its inaugural Draft Day Watch Party Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Espolon Grill y Tequileria, 10115 U.S Highway 50 in Mound House.

All Raiders fans are welcome to discuss Raiders football, draft picks, trades, game schedule and everything Raiders at this event.

Applications for membership will be available; annual membership cost is $20 per person. Monday and Thursday game watches are held at Espolon, while Sunday game days are at Jimmy G’s in Carson City on South Carson Street.

Espolon is a casual restaurant with full bar and bartop gaming. The menu will be available for those who are hungry and/or thirsty.

Carson Valley Men’s Golf Club Tournament results

The annual Carson Valley Men’s Golf Club Masters two day individual stroke play tournament was held April 7 and 14 and was a tie between Nick Sutter and Sandy Martin with net scores of 144.

The runners-up were Chris Willing with 147, Paul Lockwood with 149, Marc Menezes with 150, Augie Martinez with 156, Bill King with 157 and Charles Poe with 158. The closest to the pin was awarded to Fred Coons on Hole No. 1, Augie Martinez on Hole No. 17 and Gary Carsten on Hole No. 18.

Fujita wins at Silver Oak

Eric Fujita shot a low gross 75 to top the leaderboard at the Sunday Men’s Club first monthly masters event April 14 at Silver Oak Golf Course.

The low net (after handicap is applied) top finishers in the first flight were Andrew Sels with 67, followed by Nick Providenti with 69, Alex Talmant with 71, and Joe Glazner and Dan Wilson tied for fourth with 72.

In the second flight (players with higher handicaps), Fujita shot the low net 63, followed by Vern Payette 66, Steve McIntyre 67 and Hi Jeppson 68.

In the third flight, Brad Williams shot the low net 65, Ryan Balik was second with 66, followed by David Messer with 67, and Douglas Smeltzer and Darren Salerno tied for fourth with 69.

The Sunday Men’s Club season runs every Sunday through Oct. 27 at Silver Oak Golf Course and features weekly games with three flights based on handicap and optional gross and net skins games.

Golfers may stop by the golf shop to pick up an application or visit www.silveroakgolf.com to print out and mail an entry. Members of the men’s club receive reduced green fees, range balls every Sunday, Golf Handicap and Information Network (GHIN) service for the year, lunches and awards banquet, prizes, trophies, and access to a web portal to view events and scores each week.
