Carson City’s Levitt summer concert series announced

Two Grammy winners, one The Voice contestant, and at least one Carson City favorite are in the lineup for the Brewery Arts Center summer concert series.

Kicking off the 10-week free event series is Antsy McClain & the Trail Park Troubadours, led by the singer, songwriter and humorist, who have played in the BAC Performance Hall to sold-out crowds.

“I’m very excited to bring him to the Levitt stage for the first time,” said Gina Lopez Hill, executive director, BAC.

Levitt AMP Carson City Presented by The Change Companies is paid for by a $25,000 grant from the Levitt Foundation and sponsors, including The Change Companies and Carson Tahoe Health.

The first Grammy winner appears on July 20 when Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience take the stage. The band won the 2008 Grammy for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album.

On Aug. 3, Flor de Toloache performs. The all-female Mariachi band won the 2017 Grammy for Best Ranchero/Mariachi Album with their album “Las Caras Lindas.”

“They have become quite famous,” said Hill. “They pass my goosebumps test.”

Hawaiian Reggae artist Jordan T, Celtic musicians Wicked Tinkers, bluegrass band Dead Winter Carpenters, and others fill out the schedule.

Most have opening acts, such as 10 Dollar Pony, local husband-and-wife duo, who open for The Mother Hips, or New Wave Crave who open for The Brevet, the final concert in the series on Aug. 24.

A couple of the concerts are what Hill calls doubleheaders featuring two bands playing full sets. On July 6, two blues artists perform, The Novelists, a Reno band, and Kara Grainger, an Australian performer whose latest release, “Living With Your Ghost,” reached No. 3 on the Billboard Blues album charts.

On July 27, Josh Hoyer, who was on The Voice, and the Soul Colossal play another doubleheader with Remember Jones, who along with The Novelists are the only returning performers to the Carson City Levitt AMP series, now in its fourth year.

The concerts as always will also feature four food trucks, a bar, and a bounce house and other games for kids.

“There’s a lot of opportunity for engagement for the whole family,” said Hill.

This year, the stage is being moved to in front of the BAC Performance Hall, facing east, and King Street won’t be closed as it has in the past. Handicapped parking will be available on 2nd Street.
