The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada received sweatshirts for every member of their Carson City and Carson Valley locations thanks to local donors Phil and Penny Wright, longtime Carson Valley residents, NV Energy and Carson Dermatology; and new 20 winter coats for children identified as in need in Douglas County from the East Fork Professional Firefighters Association.

Matt Sampson, director of operations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, said the clubs have been handing out sweatshirts to their members for the past four years to help ensure no child goes without a means of warmth during the winter months, and the sweatshirts are proudly worn by clubs members all year round.

Overall, the clubs distributed more than 800 sweatshirts to Carson City and Carson Valley clubs members this year.

“It’s a nice way to show our kids how much they mean to us,” Sampson said. “With the weather so far this winter, they’ve come in particularly handy.”

For the past two years, Phil and Penny Wright have been major sponsors of our sweatshirt program, he said.

“We are excited to welcome NV Energy and Carson Dermatology to our club family, and extend our gratitude to the East Fork Professional Firefighters for their continuing support through Operation Warm for providing new coats for our kids in Carson Valley who really need them.”

Sampson said community support is the cornerstone of what makes the clubs work for the 2,000 plus kids served by Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada each year.

“We can’t thank each of our donors enough for their generous support,” he said. “Dedicated partners are what make our Club and community such a special place. Thank you, again, from the bottom of our warm and cozy hearts.”
