People: Dr. Aaron Dieringer named assistant admissions dean at UNR Med

The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) has named Aaron Dieringer, M.D., MPH, as assistant dean of admissions and chair of the admissions executive committee.


In the assistant dean role, Dr. Dieringer will provide leadership and direction in the review, selection and enrollment of students into the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program and to pathway and pipeline programs administered by the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs, including the BS-MD Program and Post-Baccalaureate Program, according to an April 9 press release.


As chair of the admissions executive committee, Dr. Dieringer will also oversee UNR Med’s competency-based and mission focused holistic admissions application review process, working with Tamara Martinez-Anderson, director of admissions, in the development of strategies and programming to meet enrollment goals.


“Dr. Dieringer brings a wealth of experience as a physician-leader, remarkable educator and dedicated mentor,” Cherie Singer, Ph.D., associate dean for student affairs, said in a statement. “He is perfectly positioned to lead the recruitment of talented and diverse medical students who will go on to become the next generation of physicians, educators and scientists who are dedicated to A Healthy Nevada.”


Dr. Dieringer, a native of Reno, earned a B.S. from the University of Nevada, Reno, a Master of Public Health degree from UNR and and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from UNR Med; he completed his residency with the UNR Med Family Medicine Center.


Dr. Dieringer is board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and serves on the State of Nevada Medical Care Advisory Committee.
