The state of Nevada was recently awarded a $1 million grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) as part of the federal agency’s $3 billion in disbursements from the American Rescue Plan.

According to an Oct. 21 press release from Gov. Steve Sisolak’s office, the grant will be used “to assist in Nevada’s efforts to rebuild and recover from the effects of the pandemic by diversifying the economy and creating resiliency to future economic turmoil.”

The money will go toward analyzing needs of Nevada’s poverty communities; support statewide broadband data collection and mapping efforts; conduct skills assessments to help inform workforce development across Nevada; and undertake a statewide supply chain and logistics assessment, among other efforts.

“I am proud that Nevada is one of the first states to receive these grants, as this augmented planning will assist in the betterment and broadening of Nevada’s economy,”
Sisolak said in a statement.

Twenty-three other states each received $1 million on Oct. 21 as part of EDA’s first round of grants; the remainder will be disbursed “in the coming weeks and months,” according to the agency.
