Healthgrades on Oct. 19 released its 2022 Healthgrades Ratings and Specialty Excellence Awards, with Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center being honored for several achievements.

The downtown Reno hospital was noted among the top 5% in the nation for orthopedic services, spine surgery and pulmonary services; among the top 10% in the nation for prostate surgery; and was a recipient of Excellence Awards for orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, pulmonary care and prostate surgery, according to a Saint Mary’s press release.

Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance via 45 million Medicare inpatient records at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 31 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.

“We want to provide information to make finding a healthcare specialist an easier experience for consumers,” Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Head of Data Science, Healthgrades, said in a statement. “Patients can feel confident knowing that hospitals that are recognized for their performance in these specialties provide high-quality care and superior outcomes.”

Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center was also recognized for other clinical achievements, such as: a 5-star recipient for Treatment of Heart Attack for 3 years in a row (2020-2022); a 5-star recipient for Hip Fracture Treatment for 8 years in a row (2015-2022); and a 5-star recipient for Carotid Procedures for 7 years in a row (2016-2022), among several more.

“We are incredibly honored and humbled to be recognized for our commitment to patient care and safety,” Tiffany Coury, CEO of Saint Mary’s Health Network, said in a statement. “This is such a testament to the longstanding tradition Saint Mary’s has had to deliver top quality care to the community we serve.”
