The Nevada Hospital Association recently honored Renown Health board member Kimberly Dianne Cooney with its 2021 Commitment to Community Award for Trustee Excellence.

“Kim Cooney’s effectiveness in advocating on behalf of hospitals, patients and the healthcare system — as well as her personal connection and passion for improving the community’s overall health — are what drive her commitment,” Pat Kelly, NHA’s President & CEO, said in a statement. “Kim’s board leadership has helped Renown Health achieve recognition at the highest levels for excellent care, safety, community investment and bold innovation.”

Cooney — who was honored among other healthcare leaders and professionals at NHA’s annual meeting on Sept. 8 — was nominated by Renown Health President/CEO Tony Slonim, according to an Oct. 19 press release.

“Since 2007, when Kim Cooney began her service on the Renown South Meadows Medical Center Board of Directors, she began making an immediate impact,” Slonim wrote in his nomination. “In 2014, she was appointed Board Secretary of the Renown Health Board. This year marks the end of 15 years of incredible dedication. In addition to graciously giving thousands of hours of Board service, Kim also served as the Renown Health Governance & Nominating Chair, helping to ensure that the voice of our growing community is well-represented on the Board and committees.”

Cooney, a certified public accountant, retired in 2019 after a 33-year career at Grant Thornton LLP. In 1995, she became a partner in Grant Thornton and served as leader of the tax department practice.

“Kim carries the highest level of ethics and integrity. Her commitment is born out of her sense of responsibility. She has a passion for improving the community’s overall health and providing care that is accessible and affordable,” Jim DeVolld, chair of the Renown Health board, said in a statement.
