Dickinson Wright PLLC announced Aug. 23 that John Desmond of the firm’s Reno office earned the “Lawyer of the Year” honor in The Best Lawyers in America 2022 edition in the area of Appellate Practice.

Only a single lawyer in each specialty in each community is honored with “Lawyer of the Year” status, according to Best Lawyers.

Desmond focuses his practice in the areas of commercial litigation and appellate work. His representation of clients includes a significant number of matters before the Nevada Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

He is active in the community, having served as the Chair of the University of Nevada Foundation Board of Trustees in 2019. He also serves as a member of the Nevada Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission and as a Board Member of Washoe Legal Services. Desmond, who earned his B.A. from the University of Nevada, Reno, earned his J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Michigan.

Dickinson Wright PLLC also announced Aug. 23 that two other Reno attorneys were included in The Best Lawyers in America 2022 edition: Brian R. Irvine, in the area of Litigation – Bankruptcy; and Anjali D. Webster, in the area of Commercial Litigation.

Since it was first published in 1983, the annual Best Lawyers list has become universally regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence. Best Lawyers lists are compiled “based on an exhaustive peer-review evaluation,” according to the directory’s website. Almost 87,000 industry leading lawyers are eligible to vote. The 2022 publication analyzed 8.3 million nominations; 62,000 lawyers were chosen.
