When coffee lovers go to Coffee on Main they’re not just getting a cup of joe, they’re getting 20 years of local support and service.

Coffee on Main or Nevada Joe, opened Dec. 2, 2002, by Lynda and Mike Mellows.

Mike built the drive-thru shop after experiencing a similar coffee shop in Hood River, Ore., adding a country theme.

“It blended and fit perfectly in the town,” said Lynda. “It lends itself to the old school feel and keeping it quaint. I really like that aspect and it goes with the theme of the town and what attracts people coming in.”

The Mellows operated the coffee shop for six years then sold it to the Halls in 2008. Five years later, Adele and Lauren Hoppe purchased the place and have run it ever since.

“We wanted to stay connected with the community,” said Lauren. “That aspect was really important to us.”

Lauren began working at Coffee on Main when the Halls owned it and said the small-town community feel surrounding the business had always been important.

“It makes us feel proud and very thankful that it’s been going for 20 years,” said Lynda. “We support local and feel that small businesses is where it is at.”

Coffee on Main has stayed true to the local aspect set up by the Mellows.

“We didn’t want to make any drastic changes, we just added a few drinks, but we buy local and give back as much as we can,” said Adele.

Alpen Sierra provides the roast that supplies the shop.

According to the Alpen Sierra Coffee website, long-time resident and skier, owner Christian Wasklewicz , served his first cup of coffee in a historic log cabin on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe in 1991 and has since grown into a recognized and celebrated craft roast in Nevada.

“Christian has been great,” said Adele. “He taught us how to make the best coffee and get the most out of the beans, he has endless amounts of knowledge.”

In celebration of 20 years all through January will be a customer appreciation month, where customers can receive double punches on their loyalty cards.

“We appreciate our customers and the community, we wouldn’t be here if not for them,” said Lauren and Adele.
