Francis Edward Alworth

A funeral for Francis Edward Alworth, 81, of Fallon, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Fallon.

Mr. Alworth died Dec. 12, 2001 at Churchill Community Hospital in Fallon. He was born April 1, 1910, in Fallon, to Louis and Elizabeth Schindler Alworth.

He lived in Gabbs for 50 years, moving from Fallon.

Mr. Alworth was a master mechanic, having worked in mining for Basic Inc. in Gabbs. He was past mayor and city councilman in Gabbs, a life member of the Gabbs Fire Department, a life member of Gabbs VFW Post 3677, a member of the Gabbs Lions Club, the National Rifle Association, St. Michaels Catholic Church, the Sandy Bottom Golf Club and the Gabbs Valley Sportsman's Club.

He was a World War II veteran.

He was preceded in death by brothers Cass and Robert and sister Gilda Cox.

Among his survivors are his wife of 55 years Martina and daughter and son-in-law Frances and Kelly Hanifen, all of Gabbs; daughters and sons-in-law Pat and Wayne Whitten of Fallon and Gail and Joe Carter of Carson City; son and daughter-in-law Jim and Penny Alworth of Ely and grandchildren Karen Whitten and Kelli Hanifen of Fallon, Tony Whitten and Amy Hendrickson of Ely and Leslie Alworth and James Hanifen of Reno; great-grandson Derek Whitten of Fallon; brother John of Temple City, Calif. and sisters Nadine Yeldig of Beaverton, Ore. and Betty Ridgley of Castro Valley, Calif.

A graveside service with military honors will follow the funeral at the Fallon Cemetery.
