$48,500 check counterfeit ends in arrest

An attempt by a woman to cash a counterfeit check in the amount of $48,500 ended in her arrest Tuesday in Carson City on felony embezzlement charges.

Sarah Marie Zielinksi, a 20-year-old Reno resident, attempted to cash a check from Harrah's, Las Vegas at the Wells Fargo on Stewart Street, reports stated. When bank employees called Harrah's to verify the signature, they were told the check was fraudulent.

When deputies arrived at the bank, Zielinski reportedly told them she had been contacted by a third party who offered her $700 to cash the check, prepare the cash in priority mail envelopes and await further instructions.

The woman received the check in the mail from a man named Donte, she claimed. When the transaction was done, she was to meet with a courier who would pay her once the money was handed over, she stated.

Zielinski was held on $15,000 bail.
