Boys arrested after rock-throwing spree

MINDEN - Three 16-year-old boys have been taken into custody for inflicting more than $7,000 damage by throwing rocks through windows of parked cars.

Douglas County deputies responded to several reports of broken glass at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Chichester Estates. One of the reporting residents said a blue BMW or Volvo with stickers in the window was fleeing an area where several "river rocks" had been thrown at cars.

A responding deputy noticed a car that matched the description traveling on Mono Avenue and pulled it over. Inside the officer saw several large rocks. When he questioned the boys, one admitted that all three had been involved in damage at several locations in Carson Valley, according to reports.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office has received 20 complaints of damage. The rocks ranged from baseball-size to football-size.

The teens reportedly told their parents they were going to a movie theater.
