Employee accused of stealing laser-jet printer

Despite Friday being one of the busiest shopping days of the year, only one felony arrest was made by Carson City Sheriff's deputies.

Oscar Gonzalez-Avilez, a 37-year-old laboratory technician at the vision center at Wal-Mart, was arrested at 8:07 p.m. Friday for suspicion of felony grand larceny after store witnesses reported seeing him leave without paying for a laser-jet printer.

According to police reports, Gonzalez was in Wal-Mart where he placed the printer in the bottom of a shopping cart. He then left the cart and went to another department where he retrieved a blanket set.

He purchased the blanket set in the store's electronic department, placed the blanket set into the cart and pushed the cart with the printer and the blanket into the vision center where he works. He then placed the items into a storage closet, according to reports.

He then was seen leaving the store with an item in a bag, the report said. He was stopped outside, where the printer was found and he was detained for deputies, according to the report.

He was being held on $25,000 bail.
