ELKO, Nev. (AP) - The final murder suspect in a string of violent deaths in Elko beginning with the May 1997 double murder at Domino's Pizza has pleaded to related charges before District Judge Mike Memeo.
Michael Alan Freed, 31, of Elko pleaded no contest to accessory after the fact to open murder in the connection with the Domino's killings.
The plea means Freed acknowledges the state could prove its allegations but does not admit guilt. It is treated as a guilty plea in sentencing by the court.
Freed already is serving a prison term for burglary charges and made the plea to avoid possible life in prison.
Memeo set a Jan. 22 sentencing date for Freed. He faces a maximum of five years in prison on the charges. He currently is serving a minimum of 18 months to a maximum of six years in prison for a 1998 Elko burglary conviction.
