Obituary: Marvin R. "Marv" Cessna

A celebration of life for Marvin R. "Marv" Cessna, 74, a Carson City resident for the past 24 years, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Timbers, 124 E. 8th St.

Mr. Cessna died Aug. 17, 2000, at his daughter's home. He was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Akron, Ohio, to Earl and Edna Marker.

He married Bonnie Surano of Carson City in March 1992.

He moved to the Carson City area in 1976 after 27 years in civil service as a master electrician at Point Magu Naval Air Station in Oxnard, Calif.

He owned and operated The Timbers Bar from 1976 to 1990. He was a member of the Elks and Moose lodges and was an accomplished musician and vocalist. He was the founder of The Tunesmiths Band in Oxnard. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed all types of sporting events. He had a wonderful sense of humor and compassion for life.

Among his survivors are his wife Bonnie; daughter Laura-lee and her husband Kent Redwine of Carson City; son and partner Mark Cessna and Mary McClure of Auberry, Calif.; stepson and wife Steve and Judy Surano; stepdaughter and husband Lori and Joseph Chavoen of Livermore, Calif.; grandsons Michael Cessna II of Oxnard and Matthew Cessna of Ventura and daughter-in-law Lucia Cessna of Oxnard.

Capitol City Cremation and Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
