Faike, Goldenberg make honors list

Robyn Lyn Faike and Rebecca Anne Goldenberg, both of Carson City, have been named to the Indiana University Founder's Day honors list for academic excellence for the fall semester 1999.

The students must maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average in a minimum of 12 hours of course work to qualify. Robyn and Rebecca will be honored at the university's traditional Founder's Day ceremony.

Stahl named to St. Thomas dean's list

Melissa L. Stahl of Carson City has been named to the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., dean's list for the fall semester.

Students named to the list have maintained a minimum of 3.5 grade point average during the semester.

Springman named to Oregon dean's list

Jeffrey Frank Springman of Carson City, a senior environmental studies major, has been named to the University of Oregon dean's list for the 1999 fall term.

Also named was Melinda Suzanne Reynolds of Fallon, a sophomore.

Parnell announces graduate scholarship

Assemblywoman Bonnie Parnell announced the availability of a scholarship for individuals entering graduate study for the first time in the fall of 2000.

Four scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded to students pursuing an advanced degree in political science, public administration, public policy or a related field.

Sprint Corp., in coordination with the women's network of the National Conference of State Legislatures, will provide the scholarship funds.

The scholarships will be based on a variety of factors, including scholastic achievements, written statements by the applicant, community/school involvement and letters of recommendation.

Applications and supporting documentation are due no later than June 20, and are available through Sprint's office at (800) 796-3464.

"The Sprint and NCSL Women's Network Graduate Scholarship present an outstanding financial opportunity for someone beginning the long haul of graduate study," said Assemblywoman Parnell.

"The $2,500 scholarships will help make graduate study and a career in public service a reality for four deserving students. Sprint and NCSL are to be commended for their sponsorship of this effort," said Parnell.

Anderson named to Wisconsin dean's list

Alexander J. Anderson of Carson City has been named to the University of Wisconsin college of engineering 1999 dean's list .

To be eliglble, students must earn at least a 3.25 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Class on managerial skills offered Tuesday

"Governance and Leadership of the Nonprofit Organization" will be offered by the University of Nevada, Reno, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday March 28.

This course will teach participants how to build the right balance in their staff/board of directors relationship.

In addition, the course will show participants how to use orientations and training as well as how to develop mutual goals and objectives.

The course fee is $95 and will be offered at the university's Midby-Byron Center, Room 110.

The instructors are Neal Ferguson, Ph.D., associate president and dean, University of Nevada, Reno College of Extended Studies, and Judith Simpson, retired coordinator, Partners in Education, Inc.

Evan named to dean's list at Nebraska

Carson City resident Ethan Evan has been named to the dean's list at University of Nebraska, Lincoln, for the fall semester of the 1999-2000 academic year.

Ethan is a freshman at the College of Business Administration.

Aerobic Kickboxing classes begin April 4

Aerobic Kickboxing classes taught by Nyles Rothfusz will help you get in shape and have fun while learning to defend yourself. This class takes the music, excitement and energy of aerobics but adds important self-defense techniques like jabbing, kicking, punching and blocking.

Classes are held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning April 4 at Northwest Martial Arts & Aerobics, 811 Short Court, Gardnerville. Cost is $35 per month.
