Man pleads guilty in jewelry store heist

RENO - A man who held up a Reno jewelry store pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon.

The plea by Douglas Scott Potter came as lawyers met before Washoe District Judge Jerry Polaha to confirm a June 12 trial date.

No plea agreement was offered. Potter faces up to 60 years in prison when sentenced on Aug. 10, the Washoe County District Attorney's Office said.

According to authorities, Potter entered Diamonds Etc. with a cardboard box and a semi-automatic handgun on March 14. He held two employees at gunpoint, tied them up in a back room and then took jewelry, money and other items from the store.

Witnesses saw him leaving the scene in a Ford Ranger. Potter was arrested later the same day in Fallon.
