Obituary: Charles J. "Bud" Garber

A memorial service for Charles J. "Bud" Garber, 72, a Carson City resident for the past three years, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Sacramento Elks Lodge No. 6, 6446 Riverside Boulevard, Sacramento, Calif.

Mr. Garber died April 30, 2000, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born June 21, 1927, in Jackson, Minn., to Charles L. and Fannie V. Hartzler Garber.

He married Barb Motle June 21, 1952, in Blooming Prairie, Minn.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Austin, Minn. for 22 years, coming from Sacramento where he lived for many years.

Mr. Garber was a retired contractor. He was an honorary life member of Carson City Elks Lodge 2177 and a past state president of the Minnesota Elks Association in 1992-93. He was PDDGER in Minnesota, a life member and exalted ruler of the Austin Elks Lodge No. 414 in Minnesota and a past member of the Sacramento Elks Lodge No. 6, BPOE in Sacramento. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, bowling and most of all his grand kids.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1945-47.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Calvin and sisters, Roberta Bontrager and Bonnie Evans.

Among his survivors are his wife of 47 years, Barb of Carson City; sons and daughters-in-law Chuck W. and Vicky of Mountain View, Calif., Chad A. and Kelly of Sacramento and Clark L. and Stephanie of Rocklin, Calif.; sisters, Loretta Hertle of Alpha, Minn. and Janet Whynaucht of Rochester, Minn. and grandchildren, Jeffrey, Kyle, Cody, Conor and Christopher.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
