Obituary: Joseph Josiassen

Joseph Francis Josiassen Jr., 78, of Gardnerville died Wednesday at Carson-Tahoe Hospital.

Mr. Josiassen had lived in Gardnerville for four months, coming from Carson City.

He was born May 14, 1921, in Dixon, Wyo., to Joseph Josiassen Sr. and Mary Johns Josiassen. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a parachute rigger.

On Aug. 1, 1964, Mr. Josiassen married June Ross-Hastings in Carmel, Calif. He owned and operated Premier Carpet in Oakland, Calif., for 33 years and also was a salesman in San Leandro, Calif., and Hayward, Calif.

Mr. Josiassen was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Reno. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in San Leandro, a member of the Elks Lodge in Hayward and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. A member of the Sagebrush Branch of the Model A Club in Carson City, Mr. Josiassen loved to restore his Model As, and loved to golf, and to collect antiques.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Survivors include his wife June of Gardnerville; sons Joseph C. Josiassen of Billerica, Miss.; daughters Janice Whitling of Modesto, Calif., Sandra Nicholson of Pennsylvania and Lynne Latreille of Minden; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home, 1380 Highway 395 in Gardnerville. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at FitzHenry's with cremation to follow.
