Obituary: Kathrine Butler

A memorial Mass for Kathrine Butler, 87, a South Lake Tahoe resident for the past 57 years, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1041 Lyons Ave., South Lake Tahoe.

Mrs. Butler died April 16, 2000, at Carson Healthcare Center. She was born Dec. 6, 1912, in Butte, Mont., to Peter and Emmily Magnuson Montin.

Before moving to South Lake Tahoe, she lived in Oakland.

She married Henry R. Butler Sr. in the 1940s and moved to South Lake Tahoe.

Mrs. Butler was an art teacher in Oakland and an art and home economics teacher at the University of Nevada, Reno. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 60 years in Oakland and South Lake Tahoe. She attended St. Theresa Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband and brother, Andrew "Andy" Montin of Napa, Calif.

Among her survivors are her son, Henry R. Jr. of Zephyr Cove; brother, John Ragnar "Rags" Montin of Buffalo, Wyo.; nieces, Sonja Pederson of Buffalo and Dr. Marsha A. Grant of Saudi Arabia; grandson, Eian Butler of Zephyr Cove and nephew, Dr. John B. Montin of Whittier, Calif.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
