Obituary: Bernice Lois Maltby

Bernice Lois Maltby, 96, a Zephyr Cove resident for the past 37 years, died April 15, 2002, at her home. She was born Dec. 18, 1905, in Lincoln, Neb., to Albert C. and Lois F. Becker French.

She attended Lincoln High School and business college in Sacramento, Calif.

She married Henry G. Maltby July 13, 1925, in Tahoe City. He preceded her in death March 7, 1967, in Oakland.

Before moving to Zephyr Cove, she lived in Oakland.

Mrs. Maltby was owner and operator of Maltby Markets in Oakland and Alameda, Calif. She was a member of the Oakland Shriners Temple and Oakland-Richmond, Calif. lawn bowling clubs.

Among her survivors are her children Lois Halliday of Orinda, Calif., Barbara Follini of Oakland and Patricia Olson of Zephyr Cove; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A family celebration of life will be in July.
