One Carson man killed, a second injured Saturday in crash south of Fernley

One Carson City man was killed and a second injured Saturday morning in a head-on collision on Highway 95A, seven miles south of Fernley.

Charges were pending Sunday against the Colton, Wash., man whose 1999 Ford utility vehicle crossed over the center line at 9 a.m., striking the victim's pickup, a Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Gary Lee Studely, 35, of Carson City, who was driving his 1991 Ford pickup north on 95A before the collision, was pronounced dead at the scene. Passenger John Hoyt, 35, of Carson City received non-incapacitating injuries to his trunk, according to the NHP's preliminary report.

"Richard Stanley Jutter was driving his utility southbound and for unknown reasons allowed his vehicle to cross over the center line, striking the pickup head-on and causing fatal injuries to Mr. Studely," NHP spokesman Trooper Jeff Bowers said.

Jutter, 64, of Colton received a mild head injury while his wife Shirlen, 63, was uninjured, Bowers said.

Hoyt was taken to Washoe Medical Center, where he was reported in satisfactory condition Sunday evening.
