Reid announces $3.5 million in transportation money

WASHINGTON - Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., has announced federal transportation grants totaling nearly $3.5 million for the state and Washoe County.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will get $2.2 million for the freeway and arterial system of transportation in Las Vegas. The projects will help improve efficiency and make area streets and freeways safer.

The Washoe Regional Transportation Commission will get the remaining $1.24 million to buy generators and security equipment for the Villanova and Sutro transportation facilities.

Reid said that is part of the more than $244 million Nevada will get in transportation funds from the federal government in fiscal 2000.
