Search and Rescue host membership drive

Douglas County Search and Rescue is holding its annual membership drive until Aug. 1. The all-volunteer team is responsible for conducting search and rescue operations within the county.

Although prior training is a plus, prospective members need not have any experience. New members attend a training academy which begins in September. The four-week academy teaches awareness-level basics for search and rescue. Classes are held evenings and weekends. The cost is $50 for class materials. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid drivers license.

The team is also looking for new support members who would like to help in areas such as command center support (radio/map and compass), computer work, Web site management or fund-raising, but who are not interested in field duty.

Call DCSAR ad 782-9930 and leave your name, mailing address and phone number. An information packet will be mailed to you (allow two weeks for delivery). Deadline for receipt of applications is Aug. 1.
