Support group helps families of mentally ill

A series of 12 weekly classes structured to help family members understand and support ill relatives while maintaining their own well being begins Wednesday, April 19.

The NAMI Family-to-Family Education program covers major depression, bipolar disorder (manic depression), schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, panic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder.

The course is taught by a team of trained volunteer family members who know what it's like to have a loved one with a serious mental illness.

There is no cost to participate in the program. The class is offered to family members only, registration is required and classes are limited to 20 persons.

Classes are held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in the Nevada State Library & Archives Building conference room, 100 Stewart St. Co-teachers are Jeanne Paquin and Ruth Paxton. Call 885-7768.
