A Carson City man awaiting sentencing in an April 30 Airport Road shooting was slashed in the throat Monday afternoon in an apparent domestic dispute.
Rigoberto Vega-Aquilar, 21, is listed in stable condition at Washoe Medical Center with a 3-inch slash to his neck.
"A fight took place in the residence between the two brothers which escalated to a physical argument and at some point a broken piece of glass was used to cut Rigoberto's throat," said Chief Deputy Scott Burau.
Vega-Aguilar's brother, Feliciano Fuentes-Aquilar, 32, was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon and probation violation.
Fuentes-Aquilar was one of five inmates charged with felony battery by a prisoner in a January 2001 fight at the Carson City Jail.
He plead guilty to disorderly conduct and was given one-year probation.
A condition of that probation was to receive no complaints of disorderly conduct or violence.
Vega-Aquilar shot Gabriel Munoz, 23, twice in the back after the two fought on Airport Road.
An original charge of attempted murder was reduced to gross misdemeanor conspiracy to commit battery with a deadly weapon, after Munoz failed to appear for the trial. Vega-Aquilar plead to the lesser charge and is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
