Obituary: Whitley 'Bud' Ridenour, Jr.

A funeral for Whitley A. "Bud" Ridenour, Jr., 64, an Incline Village resident, will be at 10 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Minden.

Mr. Ridenour died June 23, 2002, in Wendover, while driving his C-5 Corvette race car over 220 mph. He was born Dec. 29, 1937, in Southern California.

He graduated from Loyola High School and received an associate of science degree from Long Beach City College.

Mr. Ridenour was a retired Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff and most recently a pilot with American Airlines where he attained the rank of Captain. During his career, he mastered the Boeing 737 and the McDonald Douglas DC-10 aircraft. He retired to Incline Village.

His hobbies included skydiving, flying, gliding, scuba diving, water and snow skiing, golfing, tennis and open road car racing.

He served four years in the U.S. Army.

Among his survivors are his son Steven Whitley Ridenour of Incline Village; daughter Suzanne Gail of Tehachapi; Suzanne's boyfriend Mike Carlson of Taft, Calif.; twin grandsons Tyler and Curtis Valencia of Tehachapi and sister Jo Ann Ridenour of Torrance, Calif.

Burial will be at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.
