Patmont Motor Werks moved its manufacturing plant to Minden's Meridian Office Park from California in September, and is now running two shifts and looking to hire seven more workers, including machinists and welders.

The maker of motorized scooters has already hired about 25 workers here and relocated another 50 from its facilities in Livermore, Calif.

The company is about five weeks behind schedule, said Steve Patmont, chairman, CEO and president, after Shaw Construction ran into a few delays building the new 70,000-squarefoot facility.

"We're scrambling to keep up with demand," said Patmont.

"And it looks like 2004 will be a very good year."

Despite the glitches, is Patmont still happy he moved to Nevada from what he called a hostile business environment in California?

"Absolutely," says Patmont.
