What does Halloween have in store for Carson City?
The Children's Museum provides safe, fun and warm trick-or-treat nights Thursday and Friday with special surprises for the little ones. Come dressed in traditional Halloween costumes; princesses and goblins are welcome. Mom and Dad are can dress up, too.
At the Governor's Mansion. amid spiders and pumpkins, Gov. Kenny Guinn will hand out treats Friday.
The annual RSVP's Nevada Days Celebration will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday when the carnival opens. It will run from noon until midnight Friday and Saturday and noon until 10 p.m. Sunday. Beautiful fireworks will be displayed around dusk at Mills Park on Nevada Day. This is free for all, thanks to Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, the Greater Nevada Credit Union and individual community donations, plus a great deal of effort from organizer Janice Ayres.
Saturday is the 139th Nevada Day celebration. I hear from former chairwoman Virginia Nuzum that the new chairman, Ron Bowman, has everything ready to go. The Carson City Republican Women will start Nevada Day at the Governor's Mansion by flipping pancakes at 7 a.m. Get your Nevada Day off to a great start with a full stomach.
The Elks Lodge will participate in the parade then you can mosey on over to see Elroy the Elk at the lodge greet children. Club members will serve hamburgers and hot dogs.
Pam Graber and Carson-Tahoe Hospital present cancer survivors modeling fashions at the Harvesting Hope benefit presented by Carson-Tahoe Hospital Foundation.
As Pam put it, "it is truly a celebration of survivorship." The event raises funds for the new cancer center.
The second annual two-day Holiday Craft Fair hosted by the Carson High School PTSA will raise money for the school. Enjoy crafts, food, entertainment and a visit with Santa Claus. The goal is to make this a citywide event.
