A memorial service is 10:30 a.m. today for Olene McCandless, 85, an 18-year resident of Yerington, at the Mason Valley Southern Baptist Church, 5A Second St. in Mason with the Rev. George Ryan officiating. She died Jan. 20, 2004, at her home in Mason Valley.
Born March 14, 1918, in Walters, Okla., she moved to California, where she graduated from high school in Long Beach, Calif. She married Charles Frank McCandless in Long Beach in 1935.
She moved to Yerington in 1985. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and was a volunteer for many projects in Yerington.
Mrs. McCandless is survived by her husband of 59 years of Yerington; a son, Robert; a sister Gloravina Blom; three grandchildren, RobRoy, Jamie and Kaleen; and two great-grandchildren Marcus and Alexander.
Burial will be at a later date in the family plot at Hawthorne Cemetery.
Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington is in charge of arrangements.
