Irene Stunz

A graveside service for Irene Stunz, 94, of Kensington, Md., will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Eastside Memorial Park in Minden.

Visitation will be from 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mrs. Stunz died July 23, 2004, in Silver Spring, Md. She was born Oct. 22, 1909, in Virginia, Minn., to Matt and Sofia Sunquist Leppala.

In 1927, she moved to Mullan, Idaho, and enrolled in Lewiston Normal School, graduating in 1930. She then began teaching in Long Valley, Idaho.

She married Babe Stunz May 4, 1935, in Council, Idaho. He preceded her in death Sept. 3, 1991.

She lived at South Lake Tahoe and Carson City from 1964 to 1991.

Mrs. Stunz and her husband started the B.A. Stunz Lumber Co. in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho, and they were business partners throughout their lives. She taught in three schools in Long Valley. In 1946, after the sale of their lumber company, the Stunzes moved to Boise, Idaho.

She was active in numerous volunteer activities including Colombian Club, Delphian Society, PTA, Girl Scouts and the Methodist church.

Among her survivors are her daughters Thomasina Jo Borkman of Kensington, Aina Stunz of San Francisco and Adrienne Lapella of Lakeside, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
