Nutrition bar maker to relocate to Reno

A fast-growing developer of nutrition bars and other low-carb foods is moving its corporate headquarters and distribution facilities to Reno from Southern California.

Prime Health Dietary Supplements Inc., the maker of Think Thin bars, initially will employ four in its Reno operation, said Lizanne Falsetto, the company's president.

Falsetto said last week the company, which has been headquartered at Ventura, Calif., was attracted to Nevada by its tax climate.

Prime Health Dietary Supplements chose Reno because it's close to the company's manufacturing operations in Oakland and because Falsetto likes the region's natural beauty.

She'll move to Reno.

In the past year, Falsetto said, the company's sales grew 383 percent as consumers increasingly turned to the low-carbohydrate products developed by the company.

"We caught it at the right time," she said.

"We always knew it was coming."

The company's nutrition bars lead the category at several supermarket chains, she said, and it's posted strong sales of low-carb and sugar-free candies such as jelly beans and gummy bears.

The company launched two and half years ago now is moving into branded and private-label low-carb foods.

It just launched a low-carb pasta sauce and is preparing to launch low-carb pasta.

At the same time, Falsetto said the company is developing low-carb products for children to battle the growing number of young people who are obese.

The company will handle about 35 separate products from its Reno distribution center, she said.

The company has leased 2,500 square feet at 875 E.

Patriot Blvd.

in southeast Reno.
