At tonight's Carson City School District board meeting, trustees will hear from 12 Carson Middle School students about a Veterans Day ceremony planned for Nov. 10 at the school.
The school board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center at 851 E. William St. The meeting is open to the public.
"We're presenting Veterans Day ceremony information," said Carson Middle School teacher Ananda Campbell, who oversees the commemoration ceremony. "We do a project for Veterans Day called a 'Stake-Out.'"
That includes placards placed in front of the school from Nov. 8-12 honoring the country's veterans. An event scheduled from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. Nov. 10 includes a flag-retirement ceremony, at which the school band will play.
A veteran, who has been chosen by a committee of student and school officials but not publicly announced, will receive an honor, called the American Hero Award, at the ceremony. The award is given to someone who has served both the country and the community.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony at Carson Middle School. For more information, call Campbell at 283-2800. This is the school's sixth annual flag-retirement ceremony.
Also at the board meeting, board trustees will:
-- Hear about school-improvement plans at Carson and Eagle Middle schools and Mark Twain Elementary School.
-- Discuss, and possibly approve, an item about new-teacher signing bonuses.
-- Hear from district Superintendent Mary Pierczynski about school discipline plans.
-- Discuss hard-to-fill positions within the district.
