Retail follows rooftops as Dayton's population grows

Dayton residents were thrilled when they got a grocery store.

This year the Smith's shopping center on Highway 50 East will add much more retail.And at its heart, that capstone of Nevada culture: a casino.

Two arms of retail will reach along Retail Road and Pine Cone Road, says Project Manager Chris Bonafede of The Hone Company, based in Minden, which has developed and managed shopping centers in California and Nevada.

Phase One, at 15,500 square feet, is 100 percent leased and slated to open in early fall.

Phase Two, at 21,500 square feet and already 90 percent leased, is slated to open in early winter, says Bonafede.

The first phase will be home to Round Table Pizza, the UPS Store, Pay Check Advance, Bobby Page's Dry Cleaners, Kragen Auto and MTM Capital Services, a home loan center.

Eateries include Taco Bell, Jack in the Box and a coffee drinks purveyor.

Phase two will also be a mixture of food and retail.

SlotWorld's Daytona Casino is slated to open in mid- November, says Kevin Hogan, general manager.With a color scheme of oceanic blues and greens, the decor will play on Daytona Beach with a fun, colorful atmosphere, says Hogan.

The Grill will feature over six feet of open flame in an exhibition kitchen, while the casino will position itself as the place to always find the newest games.Marketing efforts will be directed at the locals residents of Dayton, Carson City,Mound House and Silver Springs, says Hogan.

Both the casino and the shopping center were designed by Bartlett Architecture of Reno with construction by Miles Brothers Construction Inc of Carson City.

Dayton Delta LLC is the developer of the retail center.

Nevada State Bank provided financing for the casino while Wells Fargo Bank handled financing for the retail.
