HEALTHSMART TV offers tips to keep fit

Eating less and "going for the burn" while exercising is the way to keep your body fit, right? Wrong! "Eating five times a day benefits your metabolism and helps you burn fat more efficiently," says Chris Welton. "Also, exercising too strenuously can cause you to lose muscle."

If you are confused by fitness myths, watch HEALTHSMART TV this month. Carson City physician Dr. Colleen Lyons and Chris Welton, general manager of Nevada Fitness, will give you the facts on fitness. What you weigh doesn't indicate your fitness level. As Welton said, "A pound of fat fills a gallon milk jug and a pound of muscle fills just a little 4-by-4 inch square."

HEALTHSMART TV is produced by Carson City's Pro*Star Productions and can be seen on cable Channel 10 in Carson City and Dayton at 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, 11 a.m. Wednesdays and 3 p.m. Thursdays; on Channel 26 in the Carson Valley and Minden at 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays and on Channel 16 in Reno and Washoe Valley at 9 p.m. Tuesdays.
