John Humphrey's passions have always been wildlife and the outdoors, which includes viewing, protecting, capturing photographs and sharing his photos with others to enjoy and learn from.
"Over the past forty years," Humphrey says, "I have played with photography, shooting family, military air shows, wildlife and many events, but for the past three years I have become very aware of the wildlife in Carson Valley."
An exhibit of Humphrey's wildlife and local landscape photography is scheduled for the Carson Valley Arts Council's gallery during the month of January.
Most of his wildlife photos were taken in Yellowstone National Park, where he worked with rangers, biologists, geologists, naturalists, and researchers over a 30-year period.
"My main focus when shooting is safety and preservation of my subjects, many of which are eagles, owls, hawks, and falcons, whcih bring unique considerations for their wellbeing," Humphrey says.
The gallery is located on the east side of the old Copeland Lumber Company warehouse at 1572 Highway 395 in Minden.
The exhibit will be available to the public from 10a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday during January.
Art enthusiasts can meet the artist at a reception in the gallery on Friday, Jan. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m.
The reception is free and open to the public. Scolari's and Coffee on Main are providing snacks and coffee for the reception.
Wine will be available with 10 percent of the cost going to the Douglas County Food Closet.
