Dennis Noone joins the Nevada Appeal as editor

Dennis Noone joins the Nevada Appeal as editor Tuesday.

"Dennis has a remarkable background," said Nevada Appeal Publisher Niki Gladys. "He is known for his talent in leading and coaching editorial teams. That, combined with his recent experience in developing political content, is a perfect match for our market. He'll bring a new perspective to the Nevada Appeal and I'm excited that he's joining our team."

Noone, 52, started his journalism career in 1978 as copyboy for the Ventura Star-Free Press in Southern California and worked his way through the ranks from news clerk, reporter, copy editor, city desk and copy desk chief.

In 1989, Noone took a position as an editor at the Dallas Morning News and spent 17 years there in various editing capacities - copy desk, bureau chief, politics desk - before moving on to Gannett News Service in suburban Washington, D.C.

Noone was with Gannett for four years in various editing positions, including supervising a team of reporters covering the Senate and House of Representatives.

"I came to the Nevada Appeal for a couple of reasons," Noone said. "Having worked at small papers as well as major metropolitan dailies, I believe the best original journalism is done at the local level. That applies to print and online journalism, and I'm impressed and encouraged by the popularity of the Appeal's website.

"More personally, I have family in this area and have always loved the high desert. I also admire Nevadans' work ethic, their resilience and their iconoclastic attitude."

Noone is a father to two daughters. He enjoys standup comedy, writing fiction and teaching himself the harmonica. He's also a fan of barbecue and said he's anxious to try the local fare.

"I'm very much looking forward to getting to know Carson City and the region," said Noone.

Noone can be reached starting Tuesday at 881-1221 or at dnoone@nevadaappeal.com.
