Carson sophomore represents Nevada in D.C.

Claire Hachenberger, a 16-year-old sophomore at Carson High School, represented Nevada at the National Young Leaders Conference for National Scholars in Washington, D.C. on April 5-12.

She was nominated for the honor by her teacher Sherry Caston.

Hachenberger spent time with Rep. Dean Heller and his staff, then met with the staff of Sen. Harry Reid.

She learned about the workings of the Supreme Court by being involved in a mock trial and how the government works through a mock senate. The completion of all the events qualified her for two college credits.

Hachenberger maintains a grade-point average above 4.0, while being one of three dance captains in her musical theater group. She is also a videographer for the football team.

Her interests are in art, theater, history and science. She will begin taking classes at Western Nevada College next year, hoping to have nearly completed her associate's degree by the time she graduates from high school.

She plans to attend the University of Nevada, Reno after graduation.

She is the daughter of Kim and Shelly (deceased) Hachenberger and granddaughter of Dave and Sharon Churchey of Carson City.
