Voting opens today in Yerington mayor's race

Early voting opens today in Yerington's municipal elections with two council seats and the mayor's office on the ballot.

Interim City Clerk Sheema Shaw said they are expecting a strong turnout among the city's 1,500 registered voters. She said early voting draws a strong turnout.

There are four candidates running for mayor: George Dini, Steven Grandinetti, Frank Pizzo and Jeffrey "Buddy" Rogers.

In the council race, the candidates are Jim Bagley, Richard Faber, Douglas Homestead, Jeff E. Lucier and Tony Reyes.

Shaw said the top two vote getters will claim the open seats on the council, which consists of four council members and the mayor.

Election day itself is set for June 7. Both early voting and election day voting will be held in Yerington's City Hall at 11 Pacific St.

Today and next Saturday, early voting is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, the polls will be open 8 a.m.-6 p.m. On election day, the polls will be open 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
