Fear of a general epidemic of scarlet fever resulted in an order closing the Tonopah schools for an indefinite period. According to physicians there are sixteen cases of scarlet fever are being treated in the city. Nine new cases developed yesterday - Bonanza.

70 years ago

More than 1,514 cases of syphilis were discovered in Nevada in 1942, the Nevada State Social Hygiene Association declared today. The group said conservative estimates placed the number cases in the state at more than 6,000. The state venereal control officer disclosed that 818 men that were inducted into the armed services during 1942 were found infected.

Students at Stewart Indian School will present a program of colorful Indian dancing this Saturday in the Carson City civic auditorium. Included in the program are the Hoppi Butterfly dance, Apache War dance, Feather dance, Hoop dance and Round dance.
